Marlowe grew up on the prairies in central Canada and have always felt a connection to the land. With
cattle, horses and grain farming his father taught Marlowe to make things with my hands. He began making
wine in the early 80's and took it more seriously when I moved to Vancouver, B.C in 1989 where he studied
oenology for two years. Since then Marlowe won many personal awards from crushing fresh grapes. As the
prairies led him to the vineyards he dreamed of turning my passion for winemaking into a business.
That led Marlowe to join forces with his brother Darren and purchase existing winery operations in the
Vancouver area in 1993.They have successfully owned and operated two wineries in Canada for 15 years. With
some history behind them, the dream was to move to wine country and build a new boutique winery and enjoy the
Southern California lifestyle. The winery was built in the canyon in Laguna Beach in 2003 and they are now
living a dream in Orange County. Marlowe continued oenology education at U.C. Davis and have been judging
wines at the OC Fair since 2006.
Over the years they have produced a spectrum of terrific fruit forward social wines to more complex tannic
dinner wines. A testament to the wine quality - the wines have been awarded many ribbons from the Orange
County Fair… the largest California wine competition anywhere.
They are currently featuring three brands that are available in our two tasting rooms some are available
in 15 states throughout the United States. Their main premium brands "Laguna Canyon", "Purple Paws" and Wyland
Cellars. A portion of all Purple Paws wine sales go for the care of homeless pets. Marine artist Wyland
embellishes the Wyland Cellars brand and a portion of the sales go to the Wyland Foundation which supports
clean rivers, oceans and children's programs.
Next time you are visiting downtown Laguna Beach, please visit the new tasting room across the street from
